Terada Masako and I at Todaiji Temple

STORY BEHIND THE NAME

Take care of yourself, like you take care of your plants...
with patience, consistency and love

- Terada Masako

Named after my grandmother, Terada Masako, Terada Plants is born to spread the wisdom, determination and love for plant care that she has generously taught me during my childhood in Japan.

Terada Masako was born and raised in Osaka, now settled in Nara Japan. My grandma and I used to go to Nara Park (particularly Todaiji Temple) to pay our respect and share our appreciation for nature. After some inspiration, we go to the market to pick out new flowers and plants to pot in her garden that she has curated over the last 30 years.

She is the reason why I have become the woman I am today, and to thank her for everything she has done for me, I wanted to name my brand after her.

I hope she is proud of me as I am grateful of her.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

NATSUMI HAYASHI

FOUNDER, CREATIVE DIRECTOR
CERTIFIED MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER

Raised with the values of a traditional Japanese home, spending her formative years in Hong Kong before moving to Melbourne, Australia, Natsumi grew up navigating a unique blend of cultural environments. This cross-cultural background gave her a deeply intuitive understanding of how heavily our surroundings impact our mental clarity.

This curiosity guided her academic path into Behavioural Studies and Interior Architecture, where she developed an expert understanding of spatial psychology, environmental acoustics, and the curation of tactile, sensory materials required to optimise human well-being within a space.

Building on this with her training in Mental Health First Aid, she expanded her design expertise to focus heavily on psychological safety, training deeply to recognise and support individuals experiencing sensory overload, anxiety, and modern workplace burnout.

Today, her work spans from precision plant design, spatial placement, and ongoing plant care maintenance for clients to engineering advanced acoustic sanctuaries for fast-paced corporate offices across Hong Kong and Japan. Every environment she curates is built around a single truth: the unbreakable connection between plant care and self-care.
